Research the car. There is a wealth of information online. Check the car manufacturers web site, consumer reports and the edmunds.com. web site. Know the approximate value of the car before you head out to the dealer. Go to your bank or to your credit union before you go shopping and see how much money they'll be able to lend you on a used car. This way you'll have a much better idea what you can realistically spend.

Realize that there are many different models of the same car. You may not find exactly the car with all the extras you want, or the exact color, but you may find something close that is a great deal.

Most dealers are upright and honest when selling used cars. They offer limited warranties with them. In the case of luxury end cars a lot of them still have warranties in effect when you purchase them.

If you are buying from a private seller ask to see service records. Go online and order a carfax car history report. Find out if the car will be sold "as is" or already state inspected. When you are serious about a used car make sure that you have time to take the car to your mechanic for him to give the car the once over, especially if it's being sold "as is". You don't need to find out after the fact that it needs many more repairs than you thought. You can't tell just by a visual inspection.

The cosmetics of the car are an important factor in determining it's value. Cars are generally rated as being in good, fair or excellent condition. However, especially when purchasing from a private seller you'll find that these ratings vary, sometimes greatly.

Whatever you do, don't let anyone pressure you into making a quick decision, especially a private seller. If you hear something like "I already have someone else who's willing to give me a down payment" let the car go. Stick to your guns, and your budget. If you don't get this car it wasn't meant to be and there will always be another, and better one.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4082558342196802304.post-13336525257809789452009-03-13T08:51:00.001-07:002009-03-13T08:51:38.791-07:00BUY USED CAR TIPS<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpckgfwyzj2MLYXjeirtwdbwhdKC1wyZavnQzsXf1tSKj0FtvWEwb4rSMd05HwW9i8NftN4qPYmjKQPEFqKKQjeadsJcchG9FTXK5eCl3C63WmowH0RM-jSqnDLspCoetmmcIvE3VNQvVr/s320/Galant+2.jpg" border="0" alt="drive tips"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5144107410983454450" />
There are many things that you don't want to see an automobile dealership do to you as a buyer, but there are some things that you should not do as well, if you don't want to alienate the dealer.

Here is a list of "don'ts" that you should abide by if you are really looking to get a good new or used car deal.

Don't try to pull one over on the dealer by lying about the condition of your trade in vehicle. Wind, snow, ice and blizzard conditions increase the normal dangers of driving. There is a lot you can do before the winter driving season and during a storm to protect yourself and your family.

Before winter arrives, have your car inspected to be sure it is ready for the road conditions. You can do this yourself or take it to a qualified mechanic. Check the battery, wipers and fluid, thermostat, brakes, ignition system, antifreeze, exhaust system, lights, oil level, heater and defrosters. Make sure everything is in good working order to keep you safe throughout the cold weather.

Check your tires to be sure they are road ready. Install tires that are appropriate for the driving conditions. In moderate amounts of snow, all weather radials will do the job nicely. If you live in a climate where you experience a lot of snow, consider snow tires. These have better tread to deal with snow and ice.

Prepare an emergency kit to keep in the back of your car. This will ensure that you are prepared in the event that you get stuck in the snow. Things to include in the kit:

Ice scraper
Small broom
Small shovel
Kitty litter or a bag of sand (to give traction if you get stuck in snow or ice)
Blankets or a sleeping bag
Flashlight with batteries
Flares or warning triangles
Plastic bags
First aid kit
Tool kit
Jumper cables
Bright cloth to use as a flag
Help sign for back window
Extra hat and gloves
Food and water to sustain you if you get stuck
A book, Bible or Prayer Cards to keep you busy and calm in the event you get stuck.
Charged cell phone (always carry this, especially in the winter)

Keep your gas tank at least half full at all times. This adds weight to the car and will ensure that you won’t run out of gas in the event you get stuck.

Driving in the Snow

Pay attention to the weather forecasts and road conditions in the winter months. If the weather is bad, stay home if at all possible. If you must venture out, travel in the daylight. You are more likely to find help if you get stuck during the day. Never warm up your vehicle in the garage. This releases carbon monoxide, which is toxic and can kill you.

When driving, always wear your seatbelt. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the glare of the sun reflecting off the snow. Know your car and how it handles in the snow. Features like traction control and antilock brakes can be useful in bad weather conditions. Know how these work and if your car is new, practice driving it in a snow covered parking lot before venturing out on the road.

Take it slow, especially in icy conditions. Don’t tailgate and be sure to allow a safe distance between vehicles. Do everything slowly, stopping, accelerating and turning. Leave plenty of time and space to maneuver. Sliding and skidding usually happen when turning, stopping or accelerating. Going extra slow will ensure your safety.

If the visibility is low, slow down even more. Consider getting off highways and driving even slower. This will take you out of the path of large trucks that can cause accidents. Use only your low beams, as your high beams will reflect back off the snow and won’t increase your visibility. Turn on your hazard lights to be sure other drivers see you.

In the event your car gets stuck, don’t get out. Put up the hood and tie your cloth to the antennae. This will make you more visible to emergency vehicles and other drivers. Keep the windows, air grill and tail pipe clear of snow. Wrap up in blankets and huddle up with passengers to stay warm. Run the heat for fifteen minutes each hour to keep from freezing. Move your body around to stay warm.

Keeping your car clean throughout the winter is important. Salt on the roads is important for safety, but will wreak havoc on the finish. If left on for long periods, it can cause rusting. Wash your vehicle weekly to remove salt and wax to protect the paint. Salt also leaves a coating on your headlights that can impair their operation. This will make you less visible to other vehicles. New Lite Headlight Cleaner and Restorer will return the lights to like new condition.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4082558342196802304.post-89864864231661317972008-09-30T11:14:00.000-07:002008-09-30T11:14:00.276-07:00The Golden Fuel of BioethanolWith the governments as the United States support for the bioethanol industry, the production of biomass crops are growing. If CO2 emissions can ever smaller half of agricultural production and crops such as maize, according to the bioethanol, is a good chance the soup of the day menu of alternative fuels. However, there are other complications, such as the inflation of prices for basic foods on the increase in food shortages because of the food was diverted. Of course you have to decide whether that's really helpful bioethanol in the form of its "green claims".

What is this, and is so clean?

Bioethanol, also known under the name of ethyl alcohol, is a non-fossil fuels with high octane number with fewer emissions than gasoline. Made from renewable agricultural sources, there is a fuel for their own internal combustion engines. Hydrous ethanol contains water and can be regarded as a substitute for gasoline, but requires a change of the engine. Dehydrated ethanol can be use in shares of 5% (E5) in 85% (E85). Most cars today can E5, Flex and vehicles (FFVs) to use E85. The two can be mixed with conventional fuels.

Not that the production of energy, and you are concerned about the large number of land necessary to ensure the crops. Another concern is whether this version biofuels more carbon dioxide into the air, can be absorbed by plants in growth. A better solution would be a process currently in preparation for the United States that the waste such as waste paper is made from sugar and then into ethanol. This is the case in many ethical, environmental and financial issues related to the production of bioethanol.

How can we do?

Bioethanol is a process for manufacturing the fermentation of biomass, contains sugar and starch. The cane is in the tropical regions, particularly in Europe of wheat, corn and is produced in the United States and Brazil. The adjustment and procedures for distillation, which in turn into a form biomass concentrated and removes the by-products, which are not necessary in the fuel itself The disadvantage of bioethanol, as mentioned above, the use of fertile soil for food, the Prices for food and usable land falls to grow more food. It was an important concern, for certain categories of environmental influences on the rest garbage waste from the production of bioethanol as the pollution in bioethonal, as the Gulf of Mexico through the Mississippi River. This is of course an argument is very green in the camp of fuel against the production of bioethanol and use. Despite the negative aspects that, if the problems were how to use it and where the cultures evolve, and, of course, that the treatment of waste, bio-ethanol is very powerful to clean a fuel replacement. It is hoped that the oil price continues to over 10 U.S. dollars all necessary means bioethanol is the most efficient, clean and attractive on the economy as possible.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4082558342196802304.post-62014606559372889012008-09-20T11:09:00.000-07:002008-09-20T11:10:07.465-07:00Keep Your Vehicle in Good Condition, Even If You Do Not Use itThe increase in the cost of fuel is a real challenge for car or motorcycle owners around the world. It is not difficult to find car seat covers which will suit all of your needs.

If you have kids who create a mess in your car, there are novelty car seat covers available in many colorful designs. For newborn babies, baby car seat covers are almost a necessity. Baby car seat covers are designed to fit over the original manufacturer's cover, providing even more support for your baby.

If you take your pet with you in your car, there are dog car seat covers which protect your car seats from dog-related problems. A shedding pet will change the appearance of your car seats forever, so using seat covers in this situation would be a must.

Car seat covers come in two main types: Universal, and Custom.

Universal car seat covers: These come in one standard size to fit most vehicle makes and models. The disadvantage of these is that they do not always provide a perfect fit.

Custom car seat covers: The great thing about custom car seat covers is that they are designed to fit every popular model of car, van or truck. These provide a much better fit, as they are designed specifically for that particular vehicle.

There are several materials used for car seat covers. These are poly cotton, and sheepskin.

Poly cotton is the most common fabric used for car seat covers. It is soft to the touch, and is also very durable.

Sheepskin car seat covers are also very common next to poly cotton. Sheepskin car seat covers are known to reduce stress, as they provide warmth and massage your back while you drive. They are also cool during hot weather. Sheepskin car seat covers can also be machine washed.

Car seat covers are an excellent way to protect your expensive car seats, or make old seats look like new. Having a set of unique car seat covers is a great way to add some personal touch to the interior of your vehicle, as well as a cost effective method to extend the life of your car's seats. Car seat covers are a great relief if you are worried about preserving the overall look of your vehicle.
copyright Car Seat Covers WalletUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4082558342196802304.post-84130464800652915072008-03-01T05:57:00.000-08:002008-03-01T05:58:24.057-08:00honda accord 3.0 6speedhonda accord 3.0 6speed

Good Points: Beautiful interior and exterior Very powerful engine and as a fact very fast car. Extra head and leg room for a coupe car! One of the few, (if not the only) car with a V6 that is recommended by manufacturer to run off normal fuel.(not high octane!)

Bad Points: If you've got a heavy foot you might want to reconsider the car as it burns a lot of gas! I personally don't like the trunk of the car when it doesn't have spoiler but if it does then it's a beauty!

General comments: To be honest - personally speaking I could not ask for anything better! and I will not change this car with anything else. (Well unless you want to give me a Ferrari f350 or something! lol) but yeah. There are only 500 of this model in Canada. The gear box is the same technology and concept as honda/acura NSX. It is very tight, short and aggressive. I have fallen in love with the shifting gear of this car alone! You have to drive it to feel it. Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that this is eventually a Honda so it is easy to modify since you can pretty much find anything with reasonable prices if you're into that kind of stuff! (even though more specific things like cat back and all could get pretty expensive as there are not too many of these cars made! If you want a family car, with POWER and enough room, this could also be the right car for you. Even though two adults would not be that really comfortable to sit in the back two kids will definitely be comfortable taking a ride in this car. The optional navigation system is one of a kind as it is voice activated. Several years ago, this reduction to some level has been conceived impossible but due to the advancements in technology nowadays everything is made possible and tangible to some extent.

Two years ago, this program has been launched primarily for the dwindling environmental condition as the main reason. Among the concerned partners of SELEV are the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the California Air Resources Board (CARB), and the Manufacturers of Emission Controls Association. The university’s College of Engineering Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT) spearheads this innovative research. The study has been endowed by at least $10 million from Ford as a donation. The amount has been of great help for the researchers in their tactics of finding ways of lessening the fuel emissions of the new-generation vehicles so as not to add up with the already degrading air pollution that poses great risk to the people’s health.

Going environment-friendly, no wonder, Honda Motors Corporation continues to launch and introduce to the buying public low-emission vehicles such as that of the latest Honda Accord and the rest of the new-generation vehicles in its fleet. Due to the successful study and promotion of the technology that tests vehicle emissions at lower levels, another milestone in the automotive era poses significant measures and likewise challenges the entire realm of auto manufacturers in the automobile world.

"Ten years ago, nobody thought gasoline ULEVS and SULEVs would be possible," says Dr. Joseph Norbeck, director of CE-CERT. "Now they're becoming common, and it's clear the emissions reductions they offer are significant." This SELEV project allows car engineers, designers, and manufacturers the understanding of the improvement in air quality when new-generation vehicles possess extremely low emissions, thus, give off less dangerous pollutants that could harm the environment and the people therein.

Shopping for your Honda parts has been tremendously made easy by the easy-to-navigate site provided by the trusted and leading replacement, OEM, and aftermarket parts factory that does business online. It is just a lie that you can't get away with, and could cause many cost increases later.

Don't bother looking for a car that will require financing if you have had a recent bankruptcy because you will not get an auto loan approved anyway.

Don't give the automobile dealership a deposit and then try to take it back for no reason because you should have researched the car before making the purchase. You can also lose money on the return.

Don't bother lying about your debt load and credit rating because they will check it anyway.

Don't offer any money for a car unless you already know the dealer cost because you are setting yourself up to get ripped off.
If you will follow the tips above when buying a new or used car, the rest of your negotiations will go much smoother.

One more thing you should not do that is not part of the negotiation with the salesperson, and that is, don't forget the cost of automobile insurance. Many new car purchasers have been shocked with the cost of insurance for that perfect car. That high powered red Mustang convertable might seem cool for a 19 year old college student, until he (or his dad) has to pay the insurance bill.

More than one teenage driver has found themselves caught in the circular trap of needing a car to get to the job that they need to have to pay for the car and the auto insurance. I'm sure that teenagers are not the only ones that find themselves in this position as people try to keep up with their contemporaries.

The same holds true for a car's gasoline consumption and maintenance costs. While SUV's are a fad now, unless you really need such a vehicle, you will find that the gas and maintenance costs can be substantial.

When shopping for a used car, be sure to research the safety and maintenance records of different models. You can find this type of information in magazines such as Consumer Reports or insurance company publications.

So be sure that the car you buy is within your means, including the cost of insurance, gas and maintenance of the used car.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4082558342196802304.post-8602558761808518092007-12-14T23:54:00.000-08:002008-01-12T01:22:54.839-08:00Transporting Your Exotic Car<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijH1JKaFFMu-1LQVowyCYTl0PcR6XJ5FtumKV4tZkWDJLnYOINAsq8OLekDxPB_7lVb8aR4yUEey52LBIUbb4p3Tpaeo8DXzSzZNDa0Kfqy1QC87X-u7rXS1-8T1UpywmTVQ_vpC_BHciM/s320/drivetiptexotic.JPG" border="0" alt="exotic car transports"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5144105847615358690" />
Exotic car transport is a growing branch of the car transport industry, a specialized field that includes auto exotic car transporters of custom-built automobiles, luxury cars, antique autos, exotic cars, and prototypes. Exotic car transport companies utilize state of the art satellite tracking and mobile phones to keep track of your vehicle every mile of the way. The three aspects which all engine overheat factors have in common are that they cause that the heating system can not get rid of heat, they cause a loss of coolant or they directly cause too much heat in the engine.

One first problem which might be the cause of an engine overheat is a problem with the radiator cap and the pressure it holds. If the radiator cap does not hold pressure correctly then coolant could boil and therefore the engine would overheat. Another reason might be caused by thermostat failures; it is recommendable that you check it.

The car engine might also overheat due to coolant leaks such as those from the radiator, the hoses, the water pump, the freeze plugs or any others. Also, problems in the water pump could be the cause and therefore you should check it and replace it in case it is needed.

Some other reasons by which the car engine could overheat are problems in the exhaust system which you can discover by checking vacuum readings, pipes and converter. Besides, you should also make sure that the radiator hose has not collapsed and the ignition timing is working properly.

You should also check the electric cooling fan by making sure that the fan motor, the relay and temperature are correct or otherwise it could cause the engine to overheat. Besides this, you should also check the radiator in case there are any debris in it as well as you should check its hose in case it has collapsed.

It is also recommendable that you check the antifreeze concentration which should be 50/50 in order to be correct, otherwise it could cause the car engine to overheat. If you do not find why your engine does overheat, you should ask a mechanic or an expert for advice. Be aware that about five years ago an International Oil Company did a follow up on 5,000 cars it had turned back after 3 year leases and traced them to their eventual private owners. All the cars had by then passed through wholesale auction markets and likely one or more retail dealers before being sold to a private owner. The survey disclosed that 50% of the cars had their odometers illegally turned back.

When buying a used car, supposedly with 40,000 miles for example, and determining it has a rubber timing belt, insist on a written guarantee from the seller to guarantee in writing to replace the timing belt at no charge if it fails within another 20,000 miles, a typical recommended total amount (Call any Dealer to get the recommended amount for the particular make of vehicle). After all, the vehicle may in fact already have 55,000 miles on it. If the seller will not make that guarantee, then he is admitting that the mileage is probably not accurate and by implication may well have been turned back. If the seller will not make that guarantee, consider a compromise, such as $100 maximum cost. If not acceptable, walk away and look elsewhere."

Before buying any car, especially 4-cylinder foreign cars, or even 6-cyl. BMW, be aware of the unavoidable cost of $400-$800 to replace the timing belt at anywhere from 50,000 to 70,000 miles if the car has an 'interference' type of engine. The sales person will invariably not mention that an 'interference' type engine powers the vehicle and may not even know what one is. If a timing belt on an interference engine is not replaced at recommended intervals, the repair cost when the belt breaks (not gradually, but always catastrophically) could increase to $3,000 to $5,000 due to engine failure because parts have smashed into each other

An 'interference' engine is an engine design that has been avoided by some manufacturers for well over 80 years. General Motors, Chrysler, etc., typically use a metal chain-type timing belt on push-rod engines (often called a timing chain) to transmit torque from the engine crankshaft o the engine camshaft that opens the valves that admit air and fuel. (Note: on some new cars the fuel is admitted not through the valves but through injectors in the top of the cylinder. Rather than use a steel timing chain, interference engines may use a rubber timing belt with its limited life, whereas steel timing belts typically last 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more.

Valves open further in an interference engine and project further into the combustion chamber than in a 'free-running' engine. This allows outside air at atmospheric pressure flow faster into the combustion chamber through the larger valve opening. The engine can therefore inhale more air, be a little smaller, and still create as much power while reducing its. manufactured cost and also guaranteeing future repair business for its dealer. If a rubber timing belt breaks by not being replaced soon enough, some of the valves stuck in their open position will collide with the top of the pistons, thereby breaking or irreversibly damaging one or the other or both. To make matters worse, it is not possible to measure the wear on such a rubber belt so that it could be replaced when there is some indication of imminent failure. Failure in these belts is catastrophic, without warning. This will require a whole new engine be installed. Woe to the owner. Finally, the rubber belt may have to be replaced long before 60,000 miles solely due to its age. This is really playing a bad poker hand. Interference engines are like a time bomb waiting to explode unless replacing the timing belt at the recommended interval. Be aware of that guaranteed future expense before buying a new car, or especially a used car, " with such an engine.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4082558342196802304.post-6402185409186399402007-10-18T07:10:00.000-07:002007-10-18T07:47:24.597-07:00Drive slower, save the planet!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2795L4tCTAbztzL5ASKMjAgYzKzwEBSZX3qEJCMdl7I9Zrel9bJFoBL4-5B-UNVVpsi5Cb62hjtCXlPmnMVjtzjBnyT60FE7Q320-2Z9SYgNmKNjS5b7IivjcvLTkGLkNbDpzDwXx_P4g/s320/whatiscvcc6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="honda steering" />
The environment is a hot issue that we just can’t afford to ignore any longer. To some, being environmentally aware is a way of life, a necessary and fundamental aspect of existence. To others being ‘green’ is something to aspire to, a lifestyle that with a bit of guidance could be achievable.

Young people have been brought up in a culture of ecological revelations, such as the depletion of the ozone layer and melting polar ice caps. We all know that these things are still happening yet we’ve still got a long way to go before the impacts of modern society on our planet are decelerated. Our parents weren’t particularly clued up about the effect that peoples’ actions have on their environment and recycling was certainly never an option in many houses in the 80s and 90s. However, these days we do have the resources and the knowledge to make little changes that can improve the planet for the better. If we can slow down on the road then we might be able to slow down climate change.

High levels of Co2 emissions are one of the biggest influencers of climate change and environmental damage. Exhaust emissions contain a myriad of chemicals which clog up the atmosphere and cause long term damage to our surroundings. Aviation contributes to a large proportion of the damage. Each jet requires hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel to get to its destination. Short of getting to your holiday resort by rail, a bit tricky if you’re off to the Maldives, there is little that you or I can do about aviation emissions. However, drivers can make a massive difference to the environment by taking a few steps to reduce their emissions and help reduce harmful pollution.

You can reduce the amount of fuel you use by up to 25% by changing some of your habits. Driving is expensive, with the cost of car insurance, road tax and fuel to consider. It’s not difficult to alter your lifestyle; we owe it to our future offspring and more importantly right now, we owe it to our pockets! Whilst we may not live long enough to see the benefit to the environment we can feel the immediate benefit to our pockets.

By being slightly more conscientious drivers we can all make a huge difference. Follow these tips from www.hootcarinsurance.co.uk and you’ll soon help protect the planet and feel the immediate payback in your pocket.

• Keep a steady speed when driving; by reducing the use of your pedals you reduce the use of fuel.

• Anticipate conditions, and accelerate and decelerate efficiently. This is safer and uses less fuel. It is also proven that you won’t get to your destination faster by speeding. According to Earteasy.com the most fuel-efficient speed for your car is roughly 55 mph, or 90 km/h. Increasing your speed from 55 mph to 75 mph boosts your fuel consumption a stunning 20 percent!

• If you are in traffic or caught behind railway gates, then turn off your engine. Idling uses up a great deal of fuel especially when some train gates stay down for as long as ten minutes.

• Keep your tyres pumped up to the correct level. This will save you up to 4% fuel.

• Maintain your car and change the air filter as recommended by the manufacturers’ guidelines.

• If at all possible, car share to work, this will save you money and give you a clear conscience! Some companies arrange car share schemes as do some local councils. See www.nationalcarshare.co.uk and www.liftshare.co.uk for more information.

• Walk to work if you live nearby. Not only will this keep you fit but you’ll also save fuel and money.

• Buy a car with a small engine. This will not only cut emissions but also means really cheap car insurance, cheaper tax and manoeuvrability in busy towns. Driving a 4x4 means 50% less fuel efficiency, so unless you are a farmer and regularly go off road, there really is no need to drive a gas guzzling vehicle in urban areas. By the way spray on mud is a dead giveaway!

So, we can all cut our costs and save the planet at the same time by making a few changes to the way we drive, but what about the future of fuel? Surely driving more slowly can’t be the only solution?

The future of travel

There are some innovative new energy solutions, new engine designs and hybrid car concepts which are set to take off in the years to come.

Hybrid cars are vehicles that have an ordinary combustion engine combined with another energy source such as batteries or electricity. The alternative energy source takes over from the engine when it is inefficient, such as during long slow drives. These hybrids are extremely efficient and half as polluting as normal cars with petrol engines. The good news is you don’t even have to change your beloved car because it can be converted as long as it’s less than six years old. This can be costly but long term it could save you money. There are also several government schemes running that can help you to convert your car. Some manufacturers have already caught onto the benefits of hybrid vehicles. For examples of hybrids look at the Toyota Prius, the Ford Escape and the Honda Accord to name but a few.

Electric cars may be the way ahead for city dwellers. With no emissions and using a quarter of the energy consumption of a similar sized petrol car they may revolutionise driving in the longer term. Although the cars currently on the market only drive at a maximum of 40 mph, they are exempt from tax, some congestion charges and great news for young people… they are in the lowest car insurance group. After the initial outlay of around £8,000 the car is cheap to run and extremely eco-friendly.

The future of fuel

Sulphur free fuel: We can expect to be able to buy this by 2008, in fact this will become compulsory by that date.

Biodiesel: This is a blend of 95% low sulphur diesel and 5% rapeseed oil. This reduces CO2 emissions by as much as 5% and can be used in an engine that hasn’t been converted to this type of fuel.

Bioethanol: Although this could take years to become widely available it produces less air pollutants and is renewable. It is made through the distillation of wheat, sugar or biomass. It can be used blended in unmodified engines or straight in modified engines.

The future of our environment is in our hands. If you can’t afford to buy a hybrid car or convert your engine, you can certainly make a start on your eco friendly lifestyle by following the driving tips above. It’s not too late to decelerate the impact of our polluting behaviour by decelerating our driving. It really is worth it for the future of the planet and for the health of our bank balances.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4082558342196802304.post-81276273742768011792007-10-18T07:09:00.000-07:002007-10-18T07:51:24.128-07:00Pssst: Wanna (not) Buy a Stolen Car?<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTUG-f3FudO-QHc4rHc12yvovzWJGlyy50bTEoVn6BLaIdX4AXSOWOYVfaibkxcpgJEdciBWZGzwntQ9yQphqk0EVpIW-dUQF_eqaO2QlIq9FjIskwEP2KLvWf6wAjc7IxftnI62qA0d0S/s320/Prius+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="mpv car" />
Would you buy a used car--with cash--from someone you just met in the bar, and who walked you down a dark alley to show you the car? Not likely. How about from a well-dressed, friendly, middle-aged man or woman, who placed a classified ad in your local newspaper, and who meets you midday at a restaurant of your choice?

Oops! You may be more likely to be cheated by seller number two. That's the story of Jennifer Warwa, who bought a minivan and had her mechanic examine it. The mechanic later said how shocked he was that Jennifer had been scammed:

"Because I met the gentleman who was selling the vehicle. Very clean cut. In his fifties. Very soft spoken.... And he went with her to get it inspected. There was just no sign that was the kind of person he was" the mechanic told CBC's Marketplace.

A few months later, Jennifer got a phone call from the police. They said she had purchased a stolen minivan, and they were coming to seize it. She was so upset, she tried to hide the van from the police. Eventually they caught up with her and she ended up paying for a year and a half for a $5,000 bank loan on a van she could not drive. Ouch!

Jennifer was just one victim in the chain that included the original owner, the insurance company, other consumers whose insurance rates keep rising, and the police, who spend thousands of hours tracking thefts. According to the FBI, a vehicle is stolen about every 25 seconds in the USA, amounting to an $8 billion yearly problem.

Here's how these scams often work. Thieves target particular cars: for their value, their ease of resale as a whole or in parts, or because they are easier to steal. Years ago, most cars were stripped for parts, including unusual parts such as airbags. But today some thieves are so brash they sell cars through newspapers.

This newer scam is called "VIN cloning", because the Vehicle Identification Number is stolen from another car. Criminals obtain VINs by copying them from the dash of cars in parking lots--even at dealerships. Some even physically remove the VIN plate from vehicles in auto salvage yards that allow customers to "pick your own parts." (They do not mean that literally!) The number is used to falsely obtain new ownership documents, or documents are forged. Either way, a cloned VIN allows them to transform stolen cars into pseudo- legal vehicles that can be officially titled and sold. Many thieves work across state lines: cars may be stolen in the East, registered in the Mid-West, then sold in California. Scary!

Here's what you can do to avoid buying a stolen car:
** Check the VIN on the dash against the VIN in the driver's door jamb, under the hood, and on the paperwork
** Use the VIN to get the car's history at carfax.com for about $20
** Ensure title and registration documents match the name and address of the seller
** Is the car from out of state?
** Be suspicious if you must meet a private seller in a parking lot. Better to see that they live at the address where the car is registered
** Has the vehicle recently been transferred?
** Does the seller use a home or work phone number, or just a cell?
** Is the selling price oddly low?
** Be warned that some used car dealers are getting scammed, too
** Pay by certified cheque or money order, not cash.

Keep in mind that most private sellers are not thieves, but rather honest, regular folks like you. And prices do tend to be lower with private sales. So if you follow my advice, you can greatly improve your chances of driving away with a "genuine" used car.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4082558342196802304.post-42226436607796513742007-10-18T07:08:00.000-07:002007-10-18T07:53:16.145-07:00How To Purchase A Used Car<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHI22Blhde0WhxsGgzKPUJT3UBP5btHAb4uynfcH_xmvXGdjWLvhEJ3GpUCZ48p6JZoJEcfEOwqHJEQ5bo9AB41PxVRT5VgusZIFWSuBGoVQ9T1EOPuo4RxPk4HykHUmgeydmt9P9q7PIa/s320/sp62248.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="mazda lantis" />
Buying a used car is a bit trickier than buying a new car although you can follow most of the same guidelines for both.

First, know what car you have in mind.

If you don't get this car it wasn't meant to be and there will always be another, and better one.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4082558342196802304.post-29984220940361724742007-10-18T07:05:00.001-07:002007-10-18T07:55:09.837-07:00Simple Car Maintenance Tips<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji0ANDCrNKadOJBmNWzDtN9WWuczBq56U3bIvGomQubkOdONsoZUHsZwWX80tUyN-Rv_T_Sve7dbz1uXbKALyYZuqigmhiqM76QVYdQ-f8FC6-PK3yWHh1w9rAPuL_M5qJyj-hPuj7YSk4/s320/Evo+5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="evo7" />
You drive your car everyday. Do you pay attention to it? Do you feel that slight shimmy in the front end? Is there a new knocking sound under the hood? Is there a rattle in the dashboard? No one knows your car better than you do. If you feel something different, or if it isn't handling correctly take it to your mechanic. It could be something as simple as a tire out of alignment, or perhaps a loose belt. It's always best to find any small problem before it becomes a large one.

Here are some simple maintenance tips that you can follow to help prolong the life of your car, and help save you money.

Notice where you park your car and get into the habit of looking to see if there are any leaks when you pull out. This can be very tricky in a public garage with lots of stains from leaks from other cars, but if your car is leaking any type of fluid, transmission, radiator or brake the leak will look "fresh". If you see any fluid leaking have your car serviced as soon as possible.

Keep an eye on your tires. When you have your oil changed every 3,000 miles have your tires rotated. At this time the technician will inspect your tires for any wear. Keep your tires aligned. Check your tire pressure once every month. It's easy enough to read tire gauges and they even have electronic ones. Keeping your tires properly inflated helps increase gas mileage too.

As mentioned above, change your oil at least every 3,000 miles. The oil is the life blood of your car and keeping fresh oil in your car can extends it's life by many, many miles. At this time the technician will check your air filter, hoses and belts.

Keep your windshield washer reservoir full and carry an extra gallon with you. You don't want to be caught without washer fluid, and you don't realize how quickly you use it up, especially in the winter months when we get salt spray on the windshield. Replace your wiper blades once a year.

Following these simples steps can go a long way in prolonging the life of your carUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0
